About Us
Michigan Gongkwon Yusul started in 2018 with a group of passionate martial artists. We are currently the only program in Michigan to have properly certified instructors teaching an official Gongkwon Yusul program. Our instructors travel to South Korea every few years to train with Master Kang, the founder of Gongkwon Yusul at his headquarters school in Ilsan.
Instructors
Michigan Gongkwon Yusul classes are taught by two certified instructors who have both tested in South Korea under the founder, Master Kang. Having two certified instructors allows Michigan Gongkwon Yusul to provide the highest quality instruction in a safe and professional environment, creating a learning culture where every student can excel.

Master Rick
Master Rick has over 37 years of experience practicing Korean martial arts. He is a veteran police officer and former defensive tactics instructor. Master Rick is a seventh- degree black belt in Hapkido and a third degree black belt in Gongkwon Yusul. He is a passionate about providing effective and authentic training in a safe and professional environment.

Master Caitlin
Master Caitlin is a driven martial artist with two decades of experience in Taekwondo and Hapkido, including regular competition at a national level. She brings her martial arts dedication to her training in Gongkwon Yusul, where she holds a second degree black belt. Additionally she teaches cardio kickboxing and women’s self defense.
Location
Michigan Gongkwon Yusul found its home at Walker’s Taekwondo, a martial arts school that has served the community of Portage, Michigan for 25 years. Currently Michigan Gongkwon Yusul is taught at Walker’s twice a week.
Classes run from 7pm to 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
